MX-4 is high quality thermal paste that works for both water cooling and air cooling.

pea-sized dot in the center of the CPU.
If you have a Ryzen, you can apply
5 dots or
in an X pattern for increased coverage, but from my experience, it didn't matter. The pea-sized dot spread the same as the methods above even on a Ryzen, it's up to you to choose which you're more comfortable to do.
Arctic MX-4 should be changed every 3 years so, it is extremely durable thermal compound and it has no curing time.
