Cheapest X79 board on newegg is $175 after rebate, and the i7-3820 is $280 after $20 promo code which is $10 cheaper than the i7-3770 which is 200MHz slower, has less cache, among other things.
Sure there are cheaper LGA1155 boards, but X79 isn't the complete rip that people make it out to be.
I'm sure this cooler will be of use to those who don't want to OC but either want 64GB of ram, the massive amount of PCIe channels (these don't have to be for only video cards...), the faster stock clocks, etc/mixture of these.
And like someone else mentioned... the LGA2011 xeons.

600$ ?? I want to use these babies on a dual e5-2687w setup. That's $2000 per CPU. I'll bet they're lining up to buy. And LGA 2011 has its place, it ain't all about gaming you know. Trading uses massive data, and I have a 3770k/16g 1866/dual 7770/Maximus V rig where one major program would freeze and fail to display for seconds to minutes on data spikes like news reports. The extra PCIe lanes and quad memory of LGA 2011 solved the bottleneck. Again, gaming is major but not all there is.

You people are just as retarded as people who say, "I bought a $2000 TV, so I'm not going to skimp on the HDMI cable. $50 Monster cables for me!" If the product is adequate for the task then that is all that is required and there is no reason to spend more.

Not sure what everyone is all up in arms about,
it's a good cooler it's quiet as could be expected from any cooler
Sounds like it would be for workstations which is where 90% of these systems go.
Great item for power users who require the stability of a machine that is not overclocked
I have a alpine 11 on my 3220 it is completely inaudible

I built my 2011 rig with an MSI Big Bang II board last year, really happy with it and love that is has support for 128gb of RAM (when they get to releasing 16gb DDR3) loving using RAMdisks for some of the stuff I do.

This might actually be useful because of it's size. I just did a dual Xeon build with a ATX board. I had a hard time finding coolers that fix because the sockets were so close together. Not a lot of choices for 2011 coolers.

If I were doing a rig like that there'd be no option except for a full liquid loop. Something like a Swiftech Edge that accommodates for dual CPUs would be the only thing I'd use.
