I was buying a ram for someone, and I saw the arctic silver for 15$CDN
does it worth it? will that significantly reduce cpu temperature?

No, it's not worth the money. I tested several compounds against each other and found at best a 1C difference between CPU temps.

My testing showed that a stock, somewhat rough heatsink worked nearly as well using the pre-applied thermal interface material. But buffing the scratches out to make it smooth made a 3C difference, when used with AS. Again, it only had a 1C gain at best over cheap thermal paste, but I had to remove the stock TIM to buff out the scratches.

I did a test of my own, with 3 different types, and AS 5 gave me the best results. 3 degress below the others. So, in my opinion, go for it.

PIV 2.8 @ 3.37, 2X256 Geil Platinum PC4000 @ 1:1, 240fsb, SP-94 with 92mm Tornado, IC7, (2)Raptors in raid 0, BFG5900nu flashed to 5950ultra bios, 500 watt psu.

For the few bucks it costs it's worth it. A tube lasts for many many CPU's and costs practically nothing. Those extra few degrees are nice. I got AS for free with one of my HSF's.

It probably sux as bad as their CPU coolers and fans.

It will save you money. Here's how it works. You buy the tube, but it's expensive. You know you only need a little, so you dont waste it. You use it sparingly and well, so it lasts a long time. You didn't have to buy a second and even third tube of that other stuff.

Well, with any type of thermal paste you will have to periodically replace it. I just use thermal pads. They don't need to be changed. And the temperature difference isn't so big(at least not for me). If you're not comfortable replacing the paste from while to while, or just forget doing it, use a thermal pad.
