Are 2 GTX 970s better than a single 980

I think most here agree the 970 is the best value for money as the 980 doesn't give much of a performance increase for the asking price. What I want to know is will 2 970's SLI be vast improvement? as it will cost a bit more than a single 980 and wont be worth it if the performance increase is only minimal

Yes, twin 970s are about 1.7 times faster than a gtx 980.

That's the 970 vs the 980. They don't have comparisons up for 970 in SLI yet, but this should give you an idea.

So according to this bench http://www.guru3d.com/articles_pages/msi_geforce_gtx_970_gaming_review,17.html a single 970 in crysis3 gets 41fps what would 2 970s achieve?

GTX 970 = 41fps
2x GTX 970 = 2 x 41fps = 82fps.

You aren't gona get exactly double the frame rate, due to other things. So your average should be around 70-75fps.
