Are 3.5mm ports in monitors input or output? Acer T232HL

I want to know whether the 3.5mm port on the Acer T232HL inputs or outputs sound. If it is an input then if i plug my ps3's optical cable into the monitor (through an optical to 3.5mm cable) then will i be able to use my monitor's speakers? Thanks for any replies.

It's an input to accept a standard stereo audio cable from a PC soundcard. I've no idea if it will work from a PS3 game console.
