Are all power cables the same?

It's never really something I thought about before, but after three power surges in as many weeks (been a mite stormy here, lately), I find myself wondering just how far I can go to protect my tower from being zorched.

I can't imagine there's any more that can be done to improve a PSU cable, as much as some companies would like me to believe it's worth paying $60 for super premium PTFE-coated silver wiring and gold-laced copper prongs, or something silly like that.

Anyway, dumb question probably, but never hurts to ask.

You could get a power surge protector or a power conditioner-those are not all the same and may be able to protect your PC, but all power cords are indeed pretty much the same. As long as the wire is large enough to handle the current through it without overheating (as any legitimate power cord will have) there won't be any difference.

That's what I thought, and I guess that's the way it's going to be until they start putting in-line breakers on cords or something. Thanks!
