Are AMD cpu's good enough for gaming?

Hi I was wondering, do I need to spend more money on an Intel i3 or i5 fro a gaming pc, or is an AMD fx-6300 black edition good enough. I noticed the price difference is quite huge with AMD being much cheaper, but everyone claims Intel is much more worth the money. My question is, is an Intel i3 or i5 really that worth the performance, or is an AMD 6300 good enough to play more graphically intense games?

Thanks

Don't purchase the fx series. AMD has a whole new range of processors coming out in 2 weeks time that should completely obsolete the old chips.

That said, if you get the parts super cheap second hand the fx6300 will still do low end gaming.

On the Intel side, i3 is still very strong in games that utilise 2 cores. i5 is now seen as the standard and the i7's are the current gaming kings. Future intel lines will be moving from 4 to 6 cores for the i7 it would seem, with the current i7 design of 4 cores 8 threads dropping down to i5, but that would be some time off.

they are "good enough" but my recommendation would be to wait for ryzen to come to the market before getting any new computer, if the rumors are true the next couple of months will be interesting for all the enthusiasts
