Are Anti-Static Wristbands Necessary?

I've never used one in my life, and all of my PCs have came out of it none the worse. If you happen to have one, then go ahead and use it if you want; otherwise, don't worry about it and just be careful with the parts you handle. That's my opinion on the matter.

I've never used one and never had an issue, but I am aware of it.
I'll mostly keep the case nearby when I'm building and just touch some exposed metal before i grab anything sensitive.

The only real risk is the mobo as you'll likely make contact with metal on it. Everything else you should be able to grab by the edges.

never used them...all is good, it takes a lot of static electricity to really make electronic equipment short out, if i were you just touch the case of your pc while it's turned off and still plugged in, the ground on the power supply cord will discharge all static electricity

I've never used one either and I've rebuilt both of my PCs in the last two months. I'm not saying static discharge doesn't happen but at the same time you're basically throwing money away for a false sense of security. If you have plastic floor mats throw one down where you are working and you should be fine. If something goes wrong it's going to be more the result of a poor production line, not because of static.

Every time you handle your pc interior without static its a lottery, granted the odds are in your favor, but all it takes is one jolt to... uh... well...
