Hello Community,

I live in California and I am going to build my dad a pc so that whenever he comes back home(he's an engineer that works overseas in other countries for the U.S government), he has a fast, reliable computer to use. I email him so I don't know if he'd like an Intel or AMD build, but I told him, since he's a normal user when he's HERE in California that an AMD build would be better as it is faster and cheaper. What exactly is the difference between AMD and Intel CPU's and why are Intel CPU's not as fast as AMD, but more expensive. Why do most computers that have video editing software have mostly Intel CPU's? I have listed both an AMD and Intel build below with the links.
Intel: http://pcpartpicker.com/user/Ismail347/saved/2JQa
AMD: http://pcpartpicker.com/user/Ismail347/saved/2JQg
Both the motherboards ONLY have SATA 6 ports so I am worried that the SATA 3 devices might not work with the SATA 6 ports. Is this true? Also, what devices use SATA 3 ports anyways? I have a Samsung SSD, but that uses SATA 6. Would it be the optical drive or HDD? Please tell me ANY suggestions as I do NOT want to waste any of my dad's money (I'm only 14!). By the way, sine my Dad is a Federal Government Employee, he can get the OS really cheap so don't worry about that. Just curious, how does a SSD get worn down when defragmented? Isn't defragmenting when you have like pot holes but you're filling those pot holes to make everything smooth? Sorry about the questions, but I'm learning. Thanks in advance!!!

As far as I am aware sata 3 and sata 6 are backwards compatible so you should have no problem there. I would recommend getting RAM with ddr3-1600 as 2400 is not needed and can save you some money.

The part list is private.

PS. While amd is a little cheaper its not exactly faster. It is in some aspects but definitely not all. For what you seem to be doing though amd should suffice your needs.

Fixed!

I say go with intel as its more reliable (IMHO) but if you want to save money by all means go with amd. You really cant go wrong with both :) Everything seems fine and compatible btw The only thing I would change is the ram. http://pcpartpicker.com/parts/partlist/

This is a good choice. :)

The link isn't working. Also, can you please answer the other questions above too because I am curious. Thanks in advance!
