[SOLVED] Are current LGA1151 Motherboards Backwards Compatible?

All,

My current LGA115 Motherboard appears to be on the fritz meaning that I am in the market for a replacement. I currently have an ASUS Maximus Ranger VIII and an old i5-6600 Skylake Processor. In a perfect world, I would love to just buy another motherboard to replace my current one but I'm not sure if the newer boards will work with my current processor.

In short are current LGA1151 motherboards compatible with my old Skylake Processor? Or will I have to shell out a lot of money for an older compatible motherboard? If that is the case, I'll probably just upgrade both to save money and get something newer.

for i5 6600, you need a motherboard with 100 or 200 series chipset

Thank you! This is most helpful. Sounds like it is probably more cost-effective to replace the mobo and cpu.
