Good morning

Due to some strange noise from my pc I'm gonna change the PSU before I rma the GPU!

I see gigabyte are making PSU or at least putting there name to it. Anyway it's a Gigabyte P850GM 850W Modular 80+ Gold PSU. £70

Does any one have experience with these?

I'm guessing as gigabyte make good motherboards and graphics cards they should be good at PSUs ?

What do you guys think please?

Nope. Wrong assumption.
This PSU is a literal bomb. It blew up in Aris's review, his testing is relatively rough but it's rare to see a high quality PSU blew up on him. Then there's a very high percent of one star user reviews on these models at Newegg, with users citing DoAs and components damage. GamersNexus is also preparing an investigation, you can see a teaser of it in their YT channel, at least one unit has already blew up too.

Nice. I'll explore some other options then.

Thanks.

Go read some Newegg reviews if you want a good chuckle.

It's hard to believe how bad that unit is given how expensive it is.

What is your budget, full system specs, and current psu model?

Gigabyte themselves has better units, but I wouldn't recommend gigabyte power supplies in general.

Yea eeer I think that's definitely not the PSU for me!

The system is
Asus Rog strix b450f gaming board
Amd Ryzen 7 2700x
Cooler master ml120l CPU cooler
16gb Corsair vengeance pro RGB 3600 Ryzen tuned
Evga rtx 3070 xc3 ultra gaming black
Kingston 1tb a2000 nvme hd
Powered by a aerocool integrator 750w 80+bronze PSU

I don't really wanna spend more than a £100 at the moment as I think the whine is coming from the GPU. I know this could be a problem with not enough power that's why I wanted to try a half decent PSU before I rma the card and wait for god knows how long for a replacement.

The GPU was oc to 2100mhz but I notice it was boosting to that clock before using Asus GPU tweak. Although I did underclock it and the noise is still present when playing cyberpunk.

This is what made me think PSU problem although I could be wrong.

I know those figures are impossible but there's definitely something a miss power wise!

What about a Corsair rm750x?

Thanks.

Forgot to mention the most I've seen the GPU draw reportedly is 240w.

So, you're in Brexit land ? Look at NZXT C, ADATA XPG Core Reactor, Corsair TX-m Gold, MSI MPG A-GF, Bitfenix Formula Gold, Fractal Design ION+ Plat, Corsair RM. Or Corsair RM-x for that matter, looks like it still fits in the budget, 650W version at least.

Yeah we are still very much part of Europe it's just the whole country is in denial.

I've ordered a rm750x for £90

Thanks.

RM750x for 90 pounds seems like a good PSU.

As it uses LLC topology and a decent fan it should be quiet and not coil whine loudly.

However, I don't know if it will solve your issue.

HWINFO reads values wrong often, I think thats what you are seeing. HWINFO thinks my GTX590, which has a 365w TDP, draws less than 10 watts while under load, which of course is incorrect.

It was 105 with tax but I can claim that back.

Hopefully it solves the issue. If not I'll have to rma the card.

The CPU power is definitely not being reported right but when I was using evga precision the power draw hwinfo reported was pretty close to what precision was saying, unless that's not reading right also.

Im due some tax back soon so I was thinking of going for a 3080 with a Ryzen 9 5900x. Guessing I'll probably need a new PSU again!

Thanks.

Dont buy that gigabyte p850gm - I bought it for mining purposes and noticed that when the fan starts spinning, its very audible. Like literally too god damn loud. I returned it and put 40eur more on Corsair rm850x and.. what can I say, same load but the fan doesn't even spin. Even if the fan is spinning sometimes (very slowly), I have never heard any sound coming from the PSU... So definitely buy Corsair or EVGA when it comes to PSU's. I dont have experience on EVGA but maybe they are good too
