I currently have a GTX 770, which uses around 230 watts. A GTX 1050 Ti uses around 75 watts. Is the GTX 770 better than the GTX 1050 ti because it uses a lot more power? It makes sense to me, more power = better performance. Is this true?

Solution
no, the GPU have become more efficient using less power but are also much more powerful when it comes to graphics.
They can do more with less. They also produce less heat as most power used is turned into heat, and less heat is better over all.
Power draw isn't a good way to compare GPU.

having said that, if you have a 770 the 1050ti isn't an upgrade

but its really close to being even and using way less power to do it too.

1050 TI Die size is half that of the 770 so it produces less heat and can be a smaller card.

but any card above it likely is.

So basically the 770 and 1050 ti have similar performance, but the 1050 ti runs cooler?

if the cards use the same exact artitecute/same generation then yes, but besides that not at all, new 50/60 power efficent cards blow old cards that use multiple times the amount of power out of the water. like for example a an rtx 2060 uses a lot less power than the old gtx 480, but the rtx 2060 will run circles around it.

Ok, thanks for the info

I had a GTX 260, it needs 182w
I have a RTX 2070 Super, it needs 215w

That is one of the cases where the newer card uses more power but the comparison between NVidias 1st gen Dx 10 cards and a RTX card is just not even fair. I wonder if there are any comparison videos lol.. seems not, YouTube thinks I misspelled 2060

According to this they were almost the same price (GL finding a 2070 Super), only 11 years apart - https://www.gpucheck.com/compare/nv...7-965-3-20ghz-vs-intel-core-i7-9700k-3-60ghz/
