That depends on the 770. Cool enough for the gpu to perfom optimally if its any remotely decent card. A 960 new? No way, there are newer better cards for the same money. If its really cheap and used maybe, a 770 will perfom close to the same probably better than a 960.

I'm planning on getting a pny gtx 580 1.5gb to save money. want to know how hot they get, so if I should get it or not. and how about the gtx 770?

What games do you want to play? And what is your budget? I would under no circumstances recommend someone buy a used 580 to game with in 2016. The gtx 770 is a MUCH better card than the 580 in terms of performance, heat, power usage, driver support, and many other reasons. How much does the 770 you're looking at cost?

want to play battlefield 4 , 1 , and the witcher 3. 50 for the gtx 580 and 100 for the gtx 770 both used.

At what resolution? A 580 will struggle with all of those games. A 770 will get you playable framerates around 50-60fps 1080p medium-low settings in bf1, high settings in bf4, and maybe medium settings or so in witcher 3. But this is assuming you have a somewhat decent CPU, 8gb of ram, and a good enough power supply to power it.

do you know what temps ill get running those games for those 2 cards? how about a gtx 960 2gb?
