Question Are GTX970 GPU and B660 motherboard compatible?

I already have a PC and my GPU is GTX970. I am planning to upgrade using Core i5-12400 and a B660 motherboard. Will my 970 be compatible with this board and run on it properly?

And can anyone explain the PCIe concept behind it?

I meant that can a PCie 3.0 graphics card be compatible with a PCIe 5. motherboard? What is the concept behind the versions and the compatibility?
