Are i5 6th gen and i7 7000 series same socket type?

i want to upgrade to the i7-7700k for the hyper threading for x264 encoding, is it the same socket type as my i5-6600 non k? im pretty sure they are but i wanted to know for sure, i have a crappy mb (MSI H110m) but im gonna get a z270 maybe or a diff one anyways but that will be like 2-3 months from now

yes 6th gen and 7th gen share the same socket.

they are, but you HAVE to update your BIOS to use the i7 on your current motherboard.

Check your BIOS version you will need version 5.7 or higher if your version is lower then update the BIOS.
