Are my CPU temps to high?

I have an i5 2500, and i normally get 50-60 degrees when idle, and about 95 when doing gaming. Im not overclocked, I have the stock fan and a heatsink with thermal paste properly set up as far as i know. I used p95 on 4 threads and i went from 55 degrees to 95 in 7 seconds. This seems a little fast.
Are these temps normal? If not, what could be the causes?

Hey, I've got the i5 3750k which is Ivybridge (apparently they run alot hotter) running on stock no OC sits at about 35c at idle and max 73c (on one core other are up to 5c cooler) when stress testing in p95 so seems a bit high to me...

Did you install the cpu/cooler yourself? Never guaranteed that paste is applied properly at factory, have seen some horrific application when poking around.

Okay those are absolutely not normal temperatures. People normally say idle temps are meaningless but with 50-60 degree idle temperatures....there is meaning. Is the cooler secured on properly?

I installed the fan/heatsink myself.
The computer was built with the release of the i5 2500 in january 2011, and I reapplied the thermal paste around june 2012 as well.

That is waaaaaaaaaaaay too high! When under load it should be 50-60 degrees!

You might want to leave your PC until you get a new cooler or something. Because the i5-2500 won't last for much longer on those temps.

Has the chip been OC'd previously? Possible vcore may still be set higher than necessary? Also according to other threads 75c is the safe max temp on your chip :S

I would recommend removing the CMOS battery IF there may have been previous OC's on the board IF this is a 2500k, if not then don't worry about it. Now take another look at the cooler and make sure it is stiff and not loose.

This is just a 2500, not a 2500k. Nothing has been overclocked ever. Ill take a look at the cooler again

Your CPU should not go over 72.6C, which is the max. temp recommended by the manufacturer.

If you are not feeling comfortable with these temps, you can RMA it without a problem, assuming that the CPU cooler and thermal paste are correctly applied, and the case has a properly air flow.

Intel will not argue with with you -- they just will send you a new CPU.

Get yourself a liquid CPU cooler. I have the Corsair H60 myself. Works like a charm.

If you want to change the cooler on a budget i highly recommend the Cooler Master Hyper 212+ or EVO cooler.

95 when gaming is an INSANE temp for stock speeds.
