Hi all,

This is my first post and I just joined today 😀

I did a search on this forum before this post and did not find the exact answer that I was looking for.

I want to know if my existing mother board is compatible with a GX 1070.

My mother board is a P8P67: https://www.asus.com/Motherboards/P8P67/

The exact card I am planning to get (GTX 1070): https://www.amazon.co.uk/ASUS-NVIDIA-GeForce-Graphics-DUAL-GTX1070-O8G/dp/B01IFESATU/ref=sr_1_2?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1511781268&sr=1-2&keywords=gtx+1070

I am upgrading my existing system in the hopes of one day playing games in VR. Having a look, the my mother board does look compatible but I am asking just to double make sure.

Also, I have a Intel Core i5 2500K @ 3.30GHz. Assuming I get the card above and is compatible, will it reduce the performance of the card?

Many thanks,
Mo

if you want a 1070 , then you first need to completely rebuild your setup

too old, too weak

a gtx 1060 is about max with the 2500k overclocked at 4.5ghz+

Hi,

Thanks for your reply.

If I do go ahead and buy the graphics card above, will it be compatible? I would then consider upgrading my motherboard and CPU at a later date.

I am a little new to this, what could possible happen if I decide to 'try' and run the 1070 on my current motherboard.

Thanks.

yes, if your power supply is a decent unit 550w or better and your mobo bios is up to date

with your current setup the 1070 would be handicapped and perform like a 1060

Hi, many thanks for your reply.

I have a power supply of 700W and I do believe that my motherboard 's BIOS is up to date.

If I go ahead and upgrade my Intel Core i5 2500K @ 3.30GHz, would that open up my current setup to gain the full performance gain of a 1070?

Thanks.

yes

the i7-3770K is compatible with your motherboard, if you overlcock it a bit then yes it's a good balance with a 1070

Hi, apologies that it has taken a while to get back to you. Many thanks for your reply and help. I will look to upgrade my CPU first and then focus on the graphics card.
