Hi. I've been running an old X58 system for about 12 years, flawlessly.
I've have made some upgrades over the years and wonder if now I should also replace the PSU to avoid any unwanted surprises, but I'm not sure if new PSU are compatible with my old system.
The PC has mostly been used for internet browsing with occasional, yet intensive, scientific computing and video encoding.
These are the upgrades to the system:
  • Installed an SSD in 2011 (huge speed improvement)
  • Installed a new heat sink - cooler master hyper 212x - to reduce temps
  • replaced the original i7 920 (4-core) with a Xeon X5675 (6-core) - no OC on any of them
  • added 3x4Gb (DDR3 1333MHz) to the existing 3x2Gb (DDR3 1333MHz)
  • and will be replacing a Geforce GT 610 by a GTX 1660 I just bought on ebay.
(The case is also an old COOLER MASTER Centurion 534)

I wan't to keep this system as much as possible and don't want to speed too much on upgrades - otherwise I'd spend the money on a fully new build.
Should I buy a new PSU or just keep my 12-year old LC Power- LC 6550W V2.0? And are recent PSU compatible with my system?

Thks for the help

I have an ASUS P6T Deluxe from 2008-2009 and just replaced the PSU with a Corsair 750 RMx. It's compatible.
