are PSU modular cables universal?

I am planning to replace the bronze CX500 I have for a Rosewill 750 watt gold unit. Will I have to use the cables that come with the Rosewill unit,or can I just use the cables already inside my case, that came with the CX500? It would be nice not to gut everything and disconnect all my hardware,I amjust concerned about any compatibility issues. I dont want to fry anything, potentially. Maybe I could go with the similar priced CX750,which surely should use the same cables, only its bronze and since I leave my PC on 24/7,a gold is a better choice for better energy savings.

Solution
If you're talking about reusing modular PSU output cables from a Corsair CX500M in a Rosewill Capstone Modular 750W, no you can't. There is no universal standard for modular PSU output cables.
All the 80% bronze vs 85% gold issue means is the energy efficiency of that power supply. The cables should be universally the same but with different sleeves or coloured connectors. Gold is naturally better but cost more as a result

well, the gold Rosewill is pretty much the same price as the bronze Corsair one, which is why I am considering it and as I said,I could just get the 750 watt Corsair, which is basically the exact same thing I have, only higher wattage. Cables should be the same, one would think.

Edit: note that I could also get an EVGA unit for the same price,if anyone thinks its a better choice. I have also read a gold is better for a 24/7 on PC,since less energy is wasted in the energy conversion process. If bronze is good enough for that situation,it opens up a lot more brands to use. Note,I want to spend no more than 80,maybe 90,dollars.100 at the very most.

I agree, the only safe way to go about it would be to buy the same power supply that you currently have but i think that is overkill

The Corsair CX is a budget power supply meant for budget builds. I would not use one with a discreet GPU. They use low end Chinese capacitors that die early when stressed. The 750w model just failed completely in testing from HardOCP.

The Rosewill ( assuming Capstone ) is a better unit in every way. It gets an editor's choice silver award from the same site.

You only need 750 watts with 2 graphics cards generally. System specs?

Nope. Capstone is made by SuperFlower, Photon is made by Sirtec. SuperFlower is generally better than Sirtec.

750w Capstone gets a 9.1/10 from jonnyguru.

750w Photon gets a 7.9/10 from jonnyguru mostly due to build quality issues..

As I asked above what are your system specs? I doubt you need a 750w unit.

So I need to remove cables either way, thanks. Since the Capstone is out of stock and the Corsair is apparently not so good,I suppose I should go with the Photon. Unless anyone else has a better sounding brand in my budget range.

So what is your budget?

Power supply requirements here. You have a power supply quality issue more than capacity issue. A quality 550w unit is fine.

Here is a fully modular 80 Plus Gold XFX for $65. Made by Seasonic.

you think 550W will be sufficient? Even with an OC?

^ Very solid unit. Only 80 Plus Bronze certified but actually reaches Silver levels in testing. Great price.

Yup. 80 Bronze/Silver should be fine for most people anyway.

The EVGA 750W B2 has the 24 pin ATX cable, two PCI-E cables, and a CPU cable hardwired to it. You would most likely use them all. The rest is modular so it is still helpful.
