Are RAM cleaners safe?

Are RAM cleaners like minimem and cleanmem safe or potentially destructive? I have Windows 7 32 bit OS and one gig of RAM installed, and I know this isn't much but my computer runs slowly, very slowly, when I try to listen to Rdio, Pandora, youtube, talkradio or other audio, sometimes even without streaming audio (this wasn't the case until recently). Computer has been fine up til this point and I'm thinking of trying RAM cleaner

What the hell is a RAM cleaner?

My RAM sticks don't collect much dust, so I wouldn't ever need anything more than a q-tip maybe once/year.

If your computer is running slowly, the solution is not to pile more bloatware onto it. One gig of memory is not a lot, and the only way you're going to have more available is by a) uninstalling any unneeded programs on your system, particularly ones which run background processes, or b) purchasing more.

RAM cleaners are all useless gimmicks, believe me.
