Hello,

I have been off gaming since 2009 and want to game once in a while again.

Are the cards in question compatible with old games starting from 2004?

I heard Radeons have compatibility issues with OpenGL.

Will I be able to play old games with Radeon?

I also have Dell E2014H 19.5" monitor that is 1080p
which I will be using to play old and newest games in
1080p resolution.

Thanks.

Solution
In general, yes, modern GPUs will play older games. However, some games will not play well, or even at all, on Windows 10. It really depends on the age of the specific game in question.

Just install the current drivers and you should be fine, in most cases.

I read that Radeon drivers are not baked enough and cause issues like freezes and blue screens. Will I experience this with old games? Let's take for example game of year 2000.

This is no more true for AMD than Nvidia devices. If the game will run, it should run okay on the aforementioned GPUs.

What are the specs for your system (make/model of all components)?

I don't have system yet.
I want to buy new PC having the following:

(The list is partial)
  • AMD Ryzen 5 3600
  • Gigabyte B450 Aorus Elite
  • Corsair Vengeance LPX 8GBx2 Kit RAM
  • AMD Sapphire 8G Pulse RX Radeon or RTX 2060
  • GIgabyte 750W Power Supply

What do I have from specifications I provided?

I have only monitor that I mentioned. The rest
I have not yet bought because I am waiting for
Black Friday.
I meant your current system. Your proposed system should perform well.

You may need a BIOS update applied to the motherboard before you can use the 3rd generation Ryzen in it. Also, I am not a big fan of the Gigabyte PSU, but it should be fine.

What are thinking about in terms of storage device(s)?

My current system is a laptop - DELL Latitude E6420

For storage in the new system - Corsair SSD 240GB MP510 NVMe for SSD and 2TB Western Digital Hard Drive.

Don't know which version of Western Digital is a good one.
There is Purple, Black, Green, Caviar etc. with black being
expensive.
