I was comparing the MSI GP60 Leopard-009 to a SAGER NP4658, I'm actually looking for my daughter who is not a big gamer but she is in high school heading for college and I want to get her something to handle her school needs plus videos, pictures, I use asus myself and have 3 but compared to those two you get more for your buck..
The GPU (graphics processor) is what adds the most cost to the more expensive laptops.
It's also generally not only a complete waste of money for non-gamers but also adds to the noise and weight of the laptop as well.
I suggest a quality laptop (good customer feedback) with an INTEL 4th gen CPU that has FOUR CORES. Something like these specs:
a) Asus, Lenovo, HP etc (good customer feedback for exact model)
b) 15.6" or 17" ? (screen size versus portability. Consider a 15.6" first for portability; you can add a second desktop monitor as well for more screen real estate in her room).
c) 1600x900 or 1920x1080 resolution
d) 4GB minimum System RAM
e) SSD + HDD optimally (Windows on SSD, and a second HDD or a bay you can add a drive too)
f) Warranty?
g) Intel 4-core 4th gen CPU
h) Graphics-> iGPU in the CPU
i) anti-gloss screen (not glossy)
j) Windows 8.1 64-bit (but get START8 for $5)
*The 4-th generation Intel CPU's are very power efficient compared to AMD and the iGPU is "good enough" for non gamers.
**Get a program like Acronis True Image to make backup images of the Windows drive to a secondary drive (either built in or USB).
