I'm going to build my pc soon, and i am wondering if i should get sleeved cables, mainly to make it look good, but are there other advantages?
and if i do get sleeved cables, which should i get it for? everything or just a few specific components?
i'm thinking of getting x3 sata, 24pin for mobo, 8pin cpu and a 6+2 pin gpu cables. are these all i will need?

planning to get:
i5 6600k
probably a gigabyte z170xp-sli
maybe a 970 or will wait for a 1070.
seasonic x750
1 hdd 1 ssd and 1 internal optical drive
8x2 ddr4

so does sleeved cables help organize things better or its just a way to make it look cooler?

Hey,
You need to make sure the PSU you buy has sleeve kits available for it.

A kit might cost about $50+.

Other:
I'd hold off for the X70 or similar if possible. I prefer NVidia right now, but they don't have hardware ASync Compute which is likely to cause a loss of performance in some (most?) DX12 games. Other changes will exist too.

Also, I consider 4GB a minimum now if buying a high-end GPU if keeping the card for several years. I'd aim for something like:
- GTX970 or better performance in DX11 gaming benchmarks
- 6GB or higher VRAM
My opionion (have sleeved my own cables) they only look cool, no real extra benefits (unless you run custom lengths but even then its more for layout and cleanliness then anything else)

You would probably need 2x PCI 6+2 cables as the 970 requires a 8+6 (depending on brand), getting the sata power and data is a good idea for optimizing layout, and maybe an extra molex for fan lay connections / layout

for the 970, well i'm probably more interested in the 1070, which should have more vram, but just using a 970 as a placeholder , and i might choose to get a 970 if the pascal cards are not out by late june/early july

Small note on this, it is possible to sleeve yourself if your PSU does not have a kit, requires some specialty tools and parts and generally will cost more then a single kit but can be customized to however you want it (a similar service was advertised on Toms a week or so ago, went through and a full kit was on the order of $150 plus shipping to be able to change strand colors)

I'd sleeve my own cables to get custom lengths. If your going to go sleeved for a color or pattern then might as well get the custom lengths and do it nice. Also instead of having 3 SATA power connectors and only using 1, you make your own single SATA power connector for just a single SSD. Same goes for the video cards. No need to have that 2 pin hanging off the side of a connector if you only use 6. Make your own.

I don't think I'd ever buy a pre sleeved kit as it's very expensive just to get some color. Cable management will still look the same.
