I have tried 2 different monitors of the same specs but one 22" and one 24" and the 22 "one is able to display 1600x1200 and the 24" one does not allow for 1600x1200, only 1680x1050, 1600x1024 and 1600x900 are options below the 1920x1080, even when I try to manually customise a resolution with 1600x1200 it says windows cannot do it. Both monitors aspect ratios are 16:9 so I am assuming it can only be the 2" difference which makes the 24" unable to display 1600x1200? This resolution is the maximum I can display on an older game I play is why I'm trying to get this display, if anyone could clear this up for me that would be great

Solution
1600*1200 is a 4:3 aspect ratio and is why it's not compatible with 16:9 panels.

What game is it? Sometimes, if you're lucky, and it's popular enough, there can be resolution workarounds/fixes. Have you tried looking?

Solution
Hmm interesting, so it must be a case of the 22" monitor having the capability to downscale and the 24" one being unable to. Here are the two monitors:
Both aspect ratios are 16:9 and only the first one can run COD1 at 1600x1200
