Are some parts of my PC outdated for the bigger triple A games?

Hello!

Lately i've played alot of games like R6:Siege, Battlefield 4 & 1, or AC:Origins f.ex., but i've noticed that i can't for the life of me get a stable framerate above 60. No matter what settings i try, i can't go above that threshold with a 144hz screen.

It's not that i can't play without it, but on games like AC:Origins the framerate is usually around 30-40, and sometimes it drops even further, even with the lowest settings. I can run Siege on stable 60 most of the time, except when explosions and rapid movement occurs over a few seconds.

PC specs:

- ASUS Z97-A, Socket-1150

- I7-4790K CPU @ 4 ghz

- 16 gb ram DDR3

- GTX 1080

(If you need any other information please let me know).

I do feel my pc should be able to run most of the newer games without any problems (maybe not all on ultra quality), but i might have overlooked something obvious perhaps.

what cooler do you have? Should be still very capable. A clean install of OS and dust cleaning sometimes do the trick. Overclock that I7 as well if cooler is good.

I do not remember where to check the model of the cooler, but i have 2 internal and 1 external fan, if that answers your question? I have never overclocked anything before, so not quite sure how to do that unfortunately.

That system should easily be able to handles those games at 1080P without issues. You may want to check the temps of your CPU/GPU while gaming, scan the system for viruses/malware & make sure you GPU drivers are up to date.

Nah, the cooler on top of CPU.

My bad, found the model; Cooler Master Hyper TX3 Evo CPU.

That system should easily be able to handles those games at 1080P without issues. You may want to check the temps of your CPU/GPU while gaming, scan the system for viruses/malware & make sure you GPU drivers are up to date.

I did send it back for repairs about a year ago, they switched out power supply and cooler, because they were faulty. It's been like this for about 2 years i believe. Can't tell exactly because i didn't play these games 2 years ago, but i've never felt that it performed as well as it should have.

If i were to do a complete wipe, and install the system again, would that help/how would i proceed to do that?

Well if you had viruses and malware that can't be removed by software then if should get rid of those, doing a clean install of Windows gives you a fresh start so you'd need to get motherboard/GPU drivers and such. I would only use it as a last option though, try the suggestions above first.

Alright, i'll do that first. Do you recommend any antivirus programs? I do have AVG free, like many others.

When it comes to temperature, CPU topped at 80 degrees after half an hour, while the GPU topped at 59 degrees.

That's still quite warm for the CPU, are you using the stock cooler or a aftermarket one?

You may want to invest into a better cooler, 80C after 30mins is a bit warm. You want it to run <80C for gaming loads for a few hours or so.
