Are the AMD Apus that bad?

I used to own a really old PC, it had a i3 2120, and a GT 730, it would run CSGO Around 70/120 FPS, well the mobo died, so i was gonna get a R3/ GTX 1050 build but i got a laptop for $550 instead since its more practical and the mainly propuse was not gaming it has an AMD A9-9420 APU and 8 gb DDR4, i installed csgo and in 1024x768 i get around 20-40 fps, i updated the drivers and no improvemeng, is this normal? Is AMD this bad?

You answered your own question by seeing the results for yourself. Yes, AMD APUs really are that bad, even worse than Bulldozer, which was a disaster. Ryzen is much better, but still not as good as Intel.

You are confusing model names with architectures. The a9 is excavator, 4th and last gen bulldozer. The bulldozer families are still grouped together because they are negligible improvements but to say it's better than itself still doesn't make sense.

Although I would agree they were terrible, the igpus on the higher end apus could beat a 730 and the cpu side was still good enough to keep up with these weak gpus. But in this case, the mobile r5 is closer to a 520 so you are getting a lot less performance. The cpu side is also weaker than your i3 by a good amount.

Yeah I know, but I was referring to the Bulldozer FX series CPUs that were more commonly used for gaming. I guess I should have clarified though.

Yes, AMD APUs are generally considered "bad". The A9-9420 APU is generally considered to be equal to a 4th or 5th generation Intel Core i3 CPU. The integrated graphics are considered "ok". Overall, the Radeon R5 (Stone Ridge) integrated graphics core in the A9-9420 is considered about equal to the Intel HD 520 graphics core in 6th generation Intel CPUs. But in CSGO the Radeon R5 performs much worse.

If possible, return your current laptop for a refund and buy a different laptop with a 6th or 7th generation Core i3 / Core i5. If you cannot get a refund check if the store will allow you to exchange the laptop.

- 7th gen Intel CPUs = i3-7100u / i5-7200u
