Question Are the cables of the cx500m compatible with the cx750m?

Hi my friend just got a cx750m from a friend of his but without the modular cables. I have the modular cables of the cx500m. I was wondering if I can give the cables to him without him frying his whole setup.

CX500m is ancient (1st) revision of Corsair's CXm lineup. CX750m can be either 2nd or 3rd revision of Corsair's CXm lineup.
I wouldn't risk it.

I, personally, wouldn't risk it, since PSU side pinouts on different wattage models, despite being same series, can be different.


Either try and "boom" or try and "all is fine". So, 50:50 chance. 😉 😈

I mean, someones gotta try it. Ima use my old rig for this one tho, dont wanna blow up my precious main rig

If your friend is competent enough to use a multimeter, then you could simply warn them they have to check all the pinouts by voltage, and if needed to move wires around in the plugs until things are correct... before plugging them into something expensive.

They will need the paperclip trick to turn on the PSU when nothing is connected to it. Given the current fashion of making all the wires black, if they can manage that then they could probably read a pinout accurately enough to check the voltages on all the other pins.

Green label CXm is low quality PSU, borderline crap. Also, discontinued years ago. I'm unsure why even mess with it.

Yeah, this isn't much of an upgrade. I mean it is in the literal sense, as in you're going from a terrible decade-old PSU to a mediocre decade-old PSU, but you really shouldn't be using either in anything but an office rig when you combine quality and age. Your friend basically gave you something to recycle for them.
