Hi Everyone,

I still continue with my AMD pc issues after 2 years just another issue i have been having and would like your opions,

My setup

Ryzen 5 2400G
Msi B450m Mortar max
2x8gig sticks Lpx vengence
Kingston A400 480Gig ssd
450watt psu

My issue is i went to test some old drives listed below and when i plugged them in the case front panel usb 3.0 port but i couldnt get the my pc to to format them or delete volume in disk managment so imoved them to the other usb 3.0 port on my case and it managed to get few of them formatted or delete volume, but to get them all working well i had to disconnect usb 3.0 cable from motherboard and use a adapter to plug usb 3.0 cable to usb 2.0 on motherboard and now i can format or delete volume on all drives with no issues.

Crucial MX100 128Gig ssd
Integral 240Gig ssd
seagate 250gb 2.5 inch mechanical Drive
Toshiba 500gb 2.5 mechanical Drive

So my question is what could be the issue, and what controls the usb 3.0 front case ports, the cpu or the motherboard ? This isn't a case issue as i have tried 3 different cases and tried a different motherboard Asrock B450m pro4.

Could this be a cpu issue or motherboard issue and do i do the sensible thing and just return to a Intel system because after 2 years nearly 3 years i have had enough of trying to sort out these issues. I dont have a spare Amd cpu to try but was considering buying a 3200G which is going to be slower than my 2400G but if it gets rid of all these Amd issues i wouldnt mind.

I just want a working pc

450watt psu
450W is the adverttised wattage of the unit. What is the make and model of the PSU and it's age at this point of time?

i have tried 3 different cases and tried different motherboard Asrock B450m pro4.
Make and model of the case(s) you're working with? You also state a different motherboard, what board were you on prior?

Stop using your front panel USB3 ports and switch to the rear panel USB3 ports.

Reduce the length of all USB3 cables to your external SSD/HDD drives to the absolute minimum.

For USB-C drives I recommend 20cm (8in) max. cables, as supplied by reputable manufacturers with fast SSD drives.

For USB-A drives including hard disks I recommend 30cm (1ft) max. I use Startech USB3 cables.

Long cables inside the case from the motherboard up to the front panel, plus long cables outside the case up to portable SSDs/HDDs increase cable capacitance and unwanted crosstalk, etc. This leads to data corruption.

Disable power management for all USB Root Hubs and Generic Hubs in Device Manager to stop Windows from powering down your USB drives to save energy.

I have to use front panel as my pc is a htpc sat under my tv but i only use the cable that comes with the portable drive and i just measured it and its actutally 21inches

My HTPC has USB3 ports on the rear panel as well as the front. Does yours?

21 inches is too long for a USB3 cable, as far far as I'm concerned, especially when added to the front panel cableform inside the PC. Many cables supplied with cheap hard disks are low quality and should be discarded.

Buy a 12 inch Startech cable and pull the HTPC out from under your TV. Plug the portable drive directly into the back of the computer with a short cable. Place the portable drive on top of the computer and slide it back under the TV. You should still be able to unplug the drive from the short lead. What have you got to lose?

I've run my external drives for years off the front USB 3.0 ports without a problem, although only with a very short (6 inch?) cable. (The case has a rubber seat for drives by the front ports for exactly this purpose.) Not sure what the internal cable to the board is but given the layout I'd guess it to be about 12 inch.

6in versus 21in could be the critical difference. Try the 6in lead again.

The only portable drives I use on the front of my HTPC are Crucial X6 1TB and 2TB SSDs with 8in leads.

Don't forget, if you're using an external 2.5in hard disk, the 500mA supply will cause a volt drop down long leads. If the voltage at the drive is less than 4.75V, it may stop working.

Its not cable as I changed to a shorter cable, I reconnected my usb 3 case cable straight back to my motherboard and I plugged in My Drive and all it did was connect and disconnected over and over again until I disconnected it , checked event viewer and found this

so checked on google and found this

If a generic error occurs when your computer pages information to or from the disk, an Event ID 51 event message is logged. In a paging operation, the operating system either swaps a page of memory from memory to disk, or retrieves a page of memory from disk to memory. It's part of the memory management of Windows.

I dont know if its a psu fault motherboad fault or cpu issue and all the drives work perfectly fine on my wife Intel 2600K system
This what it looks like in event viewer this is not from my pc but looks the same. https://www.wintips.org/how-to-fix-...r-detected-on-device-during-paging-operation/
