I thought I was doing fine with my computer setup in my home. Login today and Windows tells me Win 10 support will end Oct 2025. My desktop is too old for Win 11, so I need to upgrade.

I look at my Amazon component tracker, which typically shows the cost of parts since other places tend to match them, and I see everything I would probably buy to build was on sale through Cyber Monday, but now its all gone back up. Really not helpful for Windows to give this warning after all the sales ended.

So is there any hope for sales after Xmas? I mean, they did put stuff on sale for Black Friday... like almost everything. So one would think this would translate to other big sales. Thanks.

The Oct 2025 drop dead date for Win 10 has been known for a couple of years. It should not be a surprise.

Component sales happen, or not, every day through the year.

I'm in the process of building a new system...all parts bought. Just waiting on delivery.

All parts purchased in the days just before BF. If I had waited for Black Friday, I would have saved a whole 1%.
If I had waited until CyberMonday, it would have cost me an extra 0.5%.

Design, buy, build the system when you have the money for the parts you want. Don't try to chase specific sales, especially on brand new pars.
Discounts are almost always on last years stuff.

Thanks for the reply. I just looked at the parts that are spec'd based on suggestions I've had in other forums. They all went up 10-20% since Dec 2nd. They are certainly "last year's" parts, I'm attempting to build a "budget" build under $1000 that can play games around an RTX 4060 for 1080p.

I looked at more data since I posted this, historically parts go up a lot in January, and then go back down. Meh, idk, I might have to start all over again and look for a different build with cheaper components.

I've bought the exact same part for less money in July, than it was on the following BF/CM.
Random, 1 day sale.

i'm not sure what your expectations are for pricing but they are not really much higher than they were a couple weeks ago. for instance, here's a simple cpu/mobo/ram upgrade with a psu thrown in for the fun of it

you might have saved a little bit during the sales but not like this is sky high pricing. can spend more obviously but no need for a simple 1080p gaming system.

budget system i built for $305 couple weeks ago is now about $325. not exactly a deal breaker
