Question Are there any free alternatives to SoftRAID (RAID 4) for OWC Express 4M2?

Hello!

I finally received my OWC Express 4M2 and found that it only ships with their license for SoftRAID Lite (RAID 0 and RAID 1 only). If you want RAID 4, 5 or 1+0, you will have to pay an additional $179 USD.

Is there any other free option for RAID 4 that would work with this hardware?

Generally you don't want RAID 4. It creates a "hot spot" on the parity disk which limits performance. RAID5 with distributed parity has the same redundancy and better performance.

for windows 8 & 10 you can create a software raid 1 or 5 right from the OS using Storage Spaces.
Softraid is the only Mas OS one that I know of.
