Are there any hybrid drives that are much faster than other hybrid drives?

I only use hybrid drives because they're my perfect compromise.
Please don't say 'just buy an SSD' by the way.

Are all hybrid drives basically the same in terms of speed, or is there one brand/model that is faster than most other hybrid drives?
And what is the actual way of measuring the speed of a hybrid drive, cache? RPM?

Yes all of those things. The cache, flash SSD size and HDD rpm are all relevant. SSHD's have high potential for failure though, and probably aren't worth the trouble. Not that I want to say just buy an SSD or anything. But you probably would be better off buying a small SSD to use as a cache drive and a good mechanical drive.

Have to agree. I have had the worst luck with SSHD's at work. We bought a whole bunch of Elitedesk 800 G1 DM's and they came with Seagate 500 GB SSHD's. After about 1 and a half years they all seem to be failing, especially after a power outage or hard shutdown. It sounds like the arm gets stuck because you can hear this "click, click, click" as the drive tries to read. Plus the performance was very inconsistent and it was not a pretty sight when I thought the computer ran fine and installed it, only to have other departments complain about slowness.
