Are there any quad core q6600 motherboards? only find dual quad xeon!

I'm interested in building a dual quad-core system. 2 x Intel Q6600 CPUS @ 3.0 GHz.

When I use Newegg + others I only find dual motherboards for Xeon CPUs. Did any manufacturer put together a dual Quad-core Q6600?? Or am I missing something?

By the way it's impossible to do a search on dual motherborads these days. Everything's dual: LAN ports, cores, graphic cards, screens...

I'm not aware of any current consumer motherboards that allow for 2 cpus on an Intel platform. If you're going to actually need 8 cores, you'd have to be building a high end professional workstation, where you'd probably be better off with a server board anyway.

Yes I need 8 cores. My rendertime is 48h + / image, which would be reduced to 4h with all those cores thinking for me.
I could buy a 8-core mac pro, and have considered it, but it's more expensive than building your own, as you pay for a lot of bundled software including os X. So...

server board + Dual Quad-core xeons, that's your answer. Xeon is just the name for the Core 2 Duo chips for servers, the difference is that they are handpicked upon production to get the most stable, "better" products for servers and the rest for desktops.

btw are you sure that the rendering software you're using can utilize multiple cores? Emp brings up a good point with looking for a faster cpu, what's your current setup specs?

Well I hear a lot of talk, but I don't think it will be available soon enough, or at all for that matter.

Building on the success of their recently launched QX6800 processor, Intel also unveiled Skulltrail. Does anyone care what the technology is when the codename is that cool? Everyone? Ok then! Think AMD QuadFX, but for Intel Quad-Core processors. Yes, 8-Cores in your own personal rig, without it being a Xeon!

Current Q6600/Q6700 processor are not dual-socket capable, like high-end Xeons. Intel hasn't confirmed that the QX6800 processor is at this point, but it's assumed to be since they directly wrapped it into their announcement. This is bad for those who want to "low-end" Quad-Core processors to throw in their machines, but it's the same way with AMD and their FX-74 processors. Be prepared to open your wallet should you want an 8-core system.

Yes! I render interior scenes w/ natural daylight, blurred reflections in parquet flooring etc. It's in Maxwell. If you don't know about it and you do render, this'll change your perspective!

There's a benchmarking site for it: the 8-core Macs are in the lead with 13 min./scene.
My old P4 would do the same scene in 4 hours! So the new 8-core machines are about 20 times faster!!
