Are there laptops with the same specs as Alienwares but cheaper?

Please note I live in Canada. Sharing US prices is pointless because Canadian hardware is priced much higher than in the US.

I need a monster gaming laptop for both gaming and media work (video/photo editing, Unity, 3D modelling).

I've looked around at Alienwares and the specs are good, but I'm wondering if the prices aren't also covering for the vanity of having an Alienware (which I don't care for).

Take the Alienware 18 for example : http://www.dell.com/ca/p/alienware-18/pd?oc=nam18x3_f_h1e&model_id=alienware-18

Can't I find something with similar specs for less than $2300?

Thank you!

Alienware sells style and name. It is a BRAND with a capital B and flashing neon letters.

I would send you to a configurer like xoticpc.com and suggest that you work through a Sager system, 9377-s and see what you can put together for your money (stopping at the approriate Canadian level)

or

http://www.xoticpc.com/sager-np8278s-clevo-p170sma-p-6985.html?wconfigure=yes

Can be configured a lot better and have good thermal management.

Thank you TomThePotato.

You've fed me for a day, now care to teach me how to fish? :D How did you go about finding that laptop? Is there an easy way? Is there a page you can enter a CPU/GPU and get a list of laptops matching that?

Why would someone buy an Alienware 18 instead of the ASUS ROG G551JM if you can save $1000 on an inch of screen and 250GB of storage?

Hi Karlkarl,

If you can take a close look on alienwares there are a few things that you might not like apart from the showcasing specs . It's that the laptop no matter what ,gets heated up and secondly if you want to do editing , try finding out a dell precesion coz the FirePro or ati graphics helps you a lot in 3d works and the same cards can do Better in gaming. But gtx , radeons are meant for gaming but when it comes to editing , they are not even up to satisfactory range .

What I really recommend you is that take dell precesion which is less or around 2200$ or if you observe the specs and want a same one as Alienware , go for Republic of gamers coz they give you better over clocking capabilities and the vents at the back eradicates the CPU and the GPU heat without any issues . Plus they are less priced than Alienware which you can use the difference in price to upgrade your lappy's ram.

The best prices you can get at Ebay.ca or Amazon.com .
