My C2D system scores 3036 on 3dmark06. I dont know much about these things and so could use your help. (system specs in signature)

I have 2x120mm (1 intake, 1 exhaust) case fans and stock cpu, gpu coolers.

Yes that seems pretty low, I've got 4807 with my 6600 and 7800gtx, so it would seem something is a miss with your system.

I guess it depends what settings you were using for 3dMark06. If I set it up for 1024x768 with no anti-aliasing, I get 4755. If I set it up for my max resolution of 1280x1024 with 4x anti-aliasing, I get 2856. Pretty big difference.

With a 24" screen, I'm guessing you can get some pretty high resolutions and that will lower the 3dMark score.

Tom

Yeah, that's really low. I score 6317 marks and I don't have near the hardware you have. What are the individual scrores; SM2, HDR/SM3, cpu? Knowing them could help pinpoint the problem. Also, are you using AA and HDR? Those should be turning off during a speed test.

Thats what I was thinking.

To OP: Are you running 3DMark at the default settings, or are you using a diff resolution or something?

the settings were at 1024x768 with no anti-aliasing. everything was at default.

btw cpu, gpu, memory all at stock settings.

THen my input is that you are way slow. I get 4755 with a 1650XT with my 3.6GHz 400 FSB overclocked e6700. I don't think CPU speed effects 3DMark06 as much as gfx cards. I might go back to stock speeds on the CPU and see what happens to my 3DMark. Regardless, you are slow for your system and those settings.

This makes things look even worse than before. I forgot to say that my score was at 1280 x 1024, so I'm really waxing you and that shouldn't happen. As 3DMark06 is very gpu dependent, I suspect you have a problem with the video card and not the cpu. Again, can you give us the separate scores, SM2, HDR, and cpu, so we can have a better idea where the trouble might be?

yeah that is very low check you run some tests on you ram video card and HD one of them is the bottle neck. most likely VC or RAM.

i have been abol to tweak my system to 12400+ but im a bit on the high end of systems right now.

Check your PSU 12V rating against the requirements for the 8800 GTX. Everything I read before purchasing my system, which is almost exactly the same as yours, suggested the system would require a 600+ watt powersupply with solid ratings to run at full speed or OCed.

Have you got any screen shot of your score?

Check my system in my sig (similar to your system) and the score here for reference:

Here's what I got at 1024x768, no AA, defaults. Config is in my sig.

anyone thought that there's something else slowing his computer down?
Like an on-access virus scanner, virii, or spyware? Noooooo. everyone is too preoccupied with the amperage on the +12V rail ))

SUP, check if u have the la8est version on 3dmark. this happened to me before and it was i had to get the l8est version. if u do have it then reinstall it and if that doesn't work...check the force ware drivers or reinstall them.

Sorry i havnt been able to reply. Been pretty buzy these coupl of days.

Individual 3dmark06 scores are:
SM2 1143
SM3 1111
CPU 2116

and the gpu temp at idle is 56oC and no progs were running when i ran 3dmark. I killed all unnecessary processes except nod32 antivirus.

OK, for a comparison, here are my individual scores as of last night:
SM2 2454
HDR/SM3 2729
cpu 2239
total 6329

My cpu does a bit better because its overclocked, but I'm killing you on the graphics scores. That just shouldn't be happening since I've only got a stock 1900 XTX and you have a 8800 GTX. This suggests to me that your video card is bad or at least the wrong drivers are installed. If you have made sure that you deleted all previous drivers from your computer and you have the lastest drivers, then RMA the card, because its no good.

Even for a stock clocked system that seems way too low with a C2D running an 8800GTX.

I get 7,750 in SLI and 5,664 with a single 7800GTX but my hardware is way below yours, I'm running a single core FX57 OCd to 3,018mhz, if someone comes along with the same setup as you maybe they can run the same settings on default and see what their 06 score is, to compare.

is there any chance it is not a defective card. cos if it is then i'd be really bummed.

I live in maldives and we dont have any service centers or agents. I got the card from malaysia and i'll have to send it there and be without a gpu for sometime.

and i heard that initial 8800gtx cards had some hardware problems. Maybe mine is one from the defective batch.
