Hello, I am going to build a gaming pc and i'm just wondering if anyone has any advice. Will there be any problems with these parts/incompatibilities?

CPU - AMD FX-8370
Motherboard - ASUS CROSSHAIR V-
FORMULA-Z
GPU - Gigabyte NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960 GPU 4GB
RAM - G Skill 16G(4X4G) DDR3 2133MHZ
HDD - Seagate SATA3 3TB 7200RPM
SSD - Samsung 120GB SSD 850 EVO
Case - Corsair Obsidian Series 450D

This build is fine, you wont be playing witcher 3 on ultra with 60+ fps but you will be getting very good performance for your money with these parts, I would suggest as its a gaming pc look into getting an I5-4690k along with a different Mobo to fit this chip, you will get better performance for your money with an intel set up for most game

What's wrong with AMD CPU's? I know they're cheaper and less powerful per core, but they have MORE cores to make up for it. I'm genuinely asking, because I want to build a PC and I'm on a budget of £750 and so I was going to get the FX-8320 and R9 380.

Should I go for i5? If so, which model (and it needs to be similarly priced to the FX-8320 to fit my budget.

Absolutely you should go for the i5. None of these sites will recommend you an AMD, and they have to be so diplomatic about it too. Honestly they're awful. Their performance in every tier is much worse, they run hotter, they dont give you a cooler and fan, they draw more power and significatnly worrying we get returns for them. Ive been doing this for over 20 years. Intel failure single digits. AMD- stopped counting a long long time ago. Its cyrix version 2.

Its a joke compared to intel. A goddamn joke

If your budget is tight just go with the cheapest i5 you can get. With the powerful video card youve chosen youll be fine.

I've been trying to find some i5 candidates on amazon but they all seem to be at least £60 more then the AMD 8320. Do you know of any models that are better than the 8320, at around £100-£130?

look at the I5-4590 should be around this price

Any cheap chinese run stores in your area? 130 quid is $280 au. i5-6500 is $290 also the approx price of the older i5-4590

he said he wanted the computer for "Gaming" a lot of I3 processors preform better than the FX-8320 in most cases so why recommend this ?

i3 might work for games that can't/won't utilize more than 2 cores. But anything newer that requires around 4 cores, FX-8320 will be better choice.
On game like GTA V, there is no difference between the 2, except at few places FX-8320/8350 will get over 60fps while i3 is lagging behind at around 45-55.

for anything newer for almost the same price you can get the i5-4590 though and this would easily out perform the FX-8320 ?

True, in some places you might be able to find 4590 for similar price. Or 4460 at the least, which would out-perform it.

Looked at that, and apparently the 8320 gives a better performance, AND is still £40 cheaper than the i5 4590.

Edit: Don't know why that link is being difficult. I've put it into google url shortener http://goo.gl/Fm4emW

The 8320 gets a better score, and is cheaper... Still not seeing the benefit of a more expensive, worse-performing, i5?

I believe those test are preformed using all available cores within the CPU meaning that the 8320 will win, but most games rely on single core performance power and in that aspect the I5 outdoes the fx-8320 as shown here http://cpuboss.com/cpus/Intel-Core-i5-4590-vs-AMD-FX-8320, until games start using more than 4 core effectively the I5 will always out preform the FX-XXXX when it comes to gaming :)

Ok, but it's still too expensive. The fx8320 is £110, whereas the i5-4590 is £150... What do i doooo? :'(

I just want a good, budget CPU. Is there anything else that's £110 that is better than the 8320?

I won't NEED to buy a cooler, the stock coolers that manufacturers put into the box with the CPU are always enough to support the CPU, as long as you don't overclock it. So I won't need a cooler.

I took your advice on board, and had a look at the motherboards for both CPUs. Here is the FX-8320 with not even the cheapest mobo: http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/p/cmPsYJ

And here is the i5-4590 with the cheapest h97 mobo: http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/p/8gJDJx

i5 build is £40 more expensive.
So this still doesn't help me with building an i5 focused PC that fits within my budget. My FX focused build is still cheaper. I'm really not biased, I would love an i5 if I can find one that performs the same/better than the FX, for the same price.

Edit: And even if I did want a cooler, I can get a Coolermaster 212 Evo for £20, and it will STILL be cheaper than the i5.

as I said if your budget is really right go for i3-4170 it will out preform the FX-8320 in most games and is cheaper...

A dual core?? Surely that's a downgrade from my AMD Athlon II 750k??

it is dual core but its hyper threaded so it acts as if it has 4 cores don't be put off still has amazing single core performance for something at that price, and no its not a downgrade not even close, you need to take a step back it dosent matter how many core it has or what the GHz is when comparing Intel and AMD the i3 will out preform even the FX-8350 in most games due to the higher single core speed :)

Hmm that goes against everything in my gut. I already have an OCed quad core... I was looking to upgrade to an 8-core... and now it seems the answer is to buy a dual-core... Just seems... wrong :) Are you really sure? Aren't i3's waaay too old now for newer games?

I know it seems weird I was the same when I started getting into computers always thought"why would less cores be better?" but here are some tests
Significantly better PassMark (Single core) score 2,135 i3-4170vs 1,376 AMD Athelong x4 750k More than 55% better PassMark (Single core) score (what this means is you should see a huge increase in gaming FPS for most games)
