Following this thread I've now replaced the hdd with a new Seagate ST1000DM003 and have a total of 6GB ram. Please, let me briefly remind you the system configuration:
Back then, I was hoping the main source of trouble was the hdd but now I suspect the mobo is junk too since the system performance is bad even after the improvements mentioned above.
Before, I make any final decisions I wonder if anybody could help me interpret the results of CrystalDiskMark (3.0.3x64) shown in the following screenshot. Are they expected or acceptable for a system such as mine?

AMD FX-4300 3.80GHz
6GB DDR3 1066 RAM
