Are these normal temperatures ?

When I download a game from Steam my CPU goes up to 99-102*C, is that normal? I'll go tomorrow and buy a new thermal paste to re-apply it.
P.S. Is it safe to remove the old thermal paste with a microfiber and some medicinal alcohol?

That temp is way high, you really dont want to go past 90 and idealy not into the 80s. And yes the removal method is the best way.

What CPU and Cooler do you have?

Seems pretty high. Though some Intel CPUs can get well above 100 before it is an issue. AMDs not as much. What CPU are you using?

No cpu should go to 100. They shouldnt even be at 90

There are several Intel CPUs that have max temps of around 105. I'm not saying that it is OK to run that hot, but an AMD CPU won't get that hot without issues.

Yeah some of the mobile ones and older gen Intels, but regardless you shouldnt be close to thermal max on a CPU, it just throttles performance and cuts down on the lifespan of the CPU.

I have an Intel i3 2120 with the stock cooler, even in idle my cpu goes up to 80 so I don't think it's normal.
