This is my first build on this budget gaming computer ($500, OS not included) and I want to know if its compatible and if it can run Battlefield 3 at medium settings.

Also, should I change my case to Cooler Master HAF 912?

You need Win 7 64 bit or your system wont be able to use all the RAM you are buying .

The case should be fine .

Soon AMD will release new processors called Bulldozer that will use AM3+ motherboards .It will be cheaper in the long run to buy an AM3+ motherboard with a 970 series chipset if you can afford the extra $30

Without knowing the resolution of your monitor no one can tell you if it will run BF3 .

my monitor is 1600 by 1200

A 6850 will run pretty much any game on high at 1600 x 1200
