Are these temperatures safe?

So today I finally got to play something decent on my new PC, Far Cry 3.
I have a Asus R9 270 and most of the time it was 68°C with maximum of 72°C with 53-56% fan speed, 60-80% GPU load.
Are these temps safe for my system and are they normal?

Should I download MSI Afterburner to config fan speeds? 55% is quite low while gaming, no?

i think that's fine. normally the driver fan speed were configured to balance between noise and temperature. it is up to you if you want to create your own fan profile with third party software

It varies the fan speed to try to keep noise down at moderate temperatures and will only increase to 80%+ when the GPU starts to get really hot and it needs the extra cooling. Get MSI Afterburner and play with your fan speed settings, you will quickly notice that the noise does not scale linearly with the fan speed, 40-60% is usually pretty quiet, 60-70% is you can start to hear it, 80% its rather loud, 90+ it sounds like it is about to take off, so even though you only doubled the fan speed, its likely 10x as loud which is why the drivers have a curve to only use the higher speeds if they really really need to.
