MotherBoard
G-B EX58 MB (is this the best motherboard for the i7 chip?) and which model of the mother board should I get, or is there a better one for the i7 chip? Here are the 3 models of the G-B MB:
DS4 is $339
UD4P is $446
EXTREME is $523
CPU
Core i7 920 CPU $469
RAM
G.Skill NQ 6GB DDR3 1333 RAM $335
GRAPICS
896M GTX 260 ASUS or GIGABYTE? video card $425 they are both the same price, which model should I go for?
DRIVE
LG SATA BLU-RAY COMBO WRITER $229
HDD
W.D SATA 1TB X2 @ $155 EACH
POWER SUPPLY
I am willing to pay up to $200 for a quality power supply, but I have no idea which one to buy?
COOLING
Noctua NH-U12P, is this the same as the NH-U12P SE 1366 Performance CPU? It’s $30 less on the MSY pdf page, or is the SE model different because it has 2 fans instead of 1?
KB AND MOUSE
LOGITECH BLUETOOTH MX5500 $185
ENCLOSURE CASE
I got told to get the Antec 900 series for $177, I had a look at the 1200 series and liked that one better, is there another enclosure that is better? Or that would suit me more.?
MONITOR
24” 2ms HDMI ws ACER P244WB $270

thanks again

Could you reformat your list please? It's very hard to read.

MB: Gigabyte GA-EX58-UD4P
CPU: i7 920

See how much easier that is?

You had some pretty good suggestions in your other thread.

ASUS or Gigabyte GPU? Makes little difference. Get either.

Get the Corsair 850TX.

If you can get the Cooler Master HAF, get that instead of the Antec case. It's better and less money.

oh im sorry, i hope this is a little easier to read, thanks heaps

Motherboard: I would go for the cheapest one unless you have a compelling reason otherwise.

Graphics: Need link... but if the coolers look the same (shape wise), they are probably both the reference cooler, in which case they would be the same.

Case: It doesn't matter what case you get as long as it fits your board (ATX). Its the inside that counts.

The UD4P is a fairly good buy. Probably the ASUS P6T Deluxe is the better board.

The NH-U12P SE probably has the correct mounting bracket for the 1366 socket, where the plain NH-U12P is for LGA 775.

Everything else was answered in my last post.

shannonhochk:

I prefer to stay with ASUS products in most choices because they are highly reliable and will give you the best performance for either gaming or digital media station. The ASUS RAMPAGE II Extreme will definitely give you the performance. It is just a matter of if you are willing to go with that cost. The cost estimates here are based on newegg's current prices.

MB: ASUS RAMPAGE EXTREME II $398.99

CPU: Core i7 920 CPU $469

RAM: As fast and much as possible CORSAIR DOMINATOR 6GB (3 x 2GB) DDR3-1600 $224

GRAPICS : I would get one with DDR3 or newer memory on board. I still prefer an ASUS product。 The ASUS EAH4870 DK/HTDI/1GD5 Radeon HD 4870 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 $224.99 EA After Rebate

DRIVE :LG SATA BLU-RAY COMBO WRITER $229

HDD : HITACHI / SEAGATE / MAXTOR brands before W.D. Ideally the faster Drive RPM, the better it is for your intended usage. No less than 7200RPM (Hitachi 1T 7200RPM 16Mb Drives goes for $87.99 Ea)

POWER SUPPLY: You might want to go for something of at least 700 - 800 Watts. Some quality reliable brands are Thermaltake, Antec, HEC.

COOLING : If you are getting a retail CPU the included cooling fan is sufficient. If the system still seem to have heat related issues you may want to consider liquid cooling if maxing out all available cooling fan bays is not enough.

KB AND MOUSE :Logitech or Microsoft brand keyboards and mice combo sets are very good and works very well.

ENCLOSURE CASE :I prefer the Thermaltake Series of Full Tower Chassis because of the better cooling and air flow. These tends to be a bit more expensive. There are many great chassis available on the market today. Just pick the one you like the best with sufficient room to expand at least a little bit for about 2 - 3 years. I am personally using the Thermaltake Armor+ Full tower.

MONITOR : Any preferred brand and model. The one with the fastest response time you can afford is the most ideal choice.
ASUS VK246H Black 24" 2ms with HDMI 1080pHD and built in 1.3Megapixel Webcam is available for $279.99

ViewSonic X Series VX2433wm wit HDMI 1080pHD 2ms is also available for $279.99

OPERATING SYSTEM: In order to fully utilize the 6Gb of RAM you will need a 64Bit Edition of Windows or Windows Alternative Operating System. All of your hardware will fully support this without any problems. I would still recommend Windows XP 64Bit if it is at all available to you. The newer Windows Vista still has a bit of issues and the upcoming Windows 7 is not available as a fully released official edition yet.

Your professional Video/Audio Applications will also work faster and better with 64Bit System Setup. The Adobe and other major families of software products have been designed to take advantage of 64Bit computing.

POWER SUPPLY: You might want to go for something of at least 700 - 800 Watts. Some quality reliable brands are Thermaltake, Antec, HEC.
Hec PSUs aren't the best of quality.

These are real PSU manufactures:
PC Power & Cooling
Corsair
OCZ
Antec
ABS

For OP's needs (assuming CrossFire) get a Corsair 750TX or a PC Power & Cooling 750. And yes, avem is right, you probably should get a workstation card, unless you know how to do the softmod to convert the normal gaming card to a workstation card.

As with all manufactures, there are tat of higher end as well as lower end products. The HEC 350W Dual fan PSU was not a bad purchase as far as the reliability and price comparison. It has worked at least the same if not better than that of many other main brands. Of course, having everything coming off of a production line cannot absolutely guarantee the quality of each supply. The overall performance of it is not really much lower than that of a "better" brand. Any PS manufacture cannot say that they will guarantee their products against any type of damage. You can only better protect your own investment with high quality surge protection / battery backup to somewhat help in protecting the investment.

One cannot always get the absolute best of the best because of budget or other reasons.

^Depends on which rig. For my main gaming rigs I have Corsair 750TX and PC Power & Cooling 610s. For my sigged rig (the most abused rig I own, and the most used) I have a Corsair 450VX with a moded case (Not the best idea, but I just had to do it :) ; I do NOT recommend doing this with out knowing what you are doing for example draining caps, See: http://studentweb.eku.edu/justin_holton/caps.html etc) ). For non demanding rigs (ie the one in my sig) I usually used Corsair 450VX and now I will probably use Corsair 400CX, mainly due to price and 450VX is kind of an overkill.

Hmm... I need a new sig.... cause the rig has been upgraded.
