Are these things compatible?

Hey guys im a new pc builder and was trying to find out if my pc build would work. I don't know if my asus maximus vii will be compatible with my Intel i7 4930K. Or do I change it to my previous choice which was a intel i7 4790k.

Nope, i7 4930K is a lga 2011 socket cpu while maximus VII is lga 1150. You need a old X79 motherboard to support it.

I assume not because I can't find any Asus Maximus VII motherboards for a LGA 2011 socket.

Do you already have an i7-4930K CPU? In other words, you already own that CPU? If so, what motherboard are you currently running it on?

The i7-4930K is a very good CPU. There is no need to waste money replacing it with an i7-4790K that gives you no performance boost.

No I'm just thinking of what motherboard CPU combo to get. In other words i haven't bought anything yet

In that case, what is the build for? Primary use cases?

if that's the case then don't get ivy bridge e. if you need a hexa core cpu, wait for Haswell-E and X99 to come out.

If you need a computer now and don't need a hexa core just get the i7 4790K and a Maximus VII.

Well I'm going to be doing some medium to heavy gaming, medium work station use and some everyday use.

I have thought for my other components


CPU: Intel Core i7-4930K or i7 4790k

CPU Cooler: Corsair H100i 77.0 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler

Motherboard: Asus MAXIMUS VII HERO ATX LGA1150 Motherboard or something that can fit the i7 4930k

Memory: Corsair Dominator Platinum 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3-1866 ( btw if I get the i7 4930k I will change this so I can use its quad channeling

Storage: Samsung 840 EVO 120GB 2.5" Solid State Drive

Storage: Seagate Barracuda 2TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive

Case: Cooler Master Cosmos II (Black) ATX Full Tower Case

Monitor: Samsung U28D590D 60Hz 28.0" Monitor

Case Fan: Corsair Air Series White 2 pack 52.2 CFM 120mm Fan

Case Fan: Corsair CO-9050016-BLED 52.2 CFM 120mm Fan

You don't need i7 4930K for that kind of stuff. i7 4790K will be good, especially if overclocked.

If I did choose the i7 4930K what would be a good motherboard to pare it with. But I'll take your advise on not getting it.
