Identical. Same CAS latency, same speed, just one has head spreaders and one does not. I would personally go for the low profile version as they won't get in the way if you decide to add a large air cooler later.

Do the head spreaders have a function or are they just to look cool? I was going to go with the low profile.

No, one has tall heat spreaders which are not functional and can interfere with some cpu coolers.
From a functional point of view, they are the same.
Fancy heat spreaders are no necessary for any normal usage. Possibly for record level overclocking of ram.
If people think they look cool, they will be sold at a price premium.

Only if you want to overclock, but even then they aren't that useful as ram never tends to get that hot. Plus overclocking ram is pretty pointless anyway - I wouldn't bother, particularly if you have an Intel build, as 1600 is the sweet spot for Intel.
