opening this, because it is a big, big question mark for me, recently I ran two tests on a very old rig cpu: Athlonx64 5000+ and radeon 4850, 2gb ram, I used FRAPS to benchmark Borderlands 2 and outlast, ultra settings for both at 1920x1080p for 1 hour
Borderlands 2 results
max:61
average:40
min:11
outlast
max: 64
average: 52
min:8
what i don't get is that according to this website Borderlands 2's average along with gtx 680+ fx 8150 =46fps
see here: http://www.techspot.com/review/577-borderlands-2-performance/page6.html
is the old 4850+athlonx 64 5000+ that good, it's funny I know, or these sites are big advertisers for hardware companies, or am i mistaken somewhere? thanks in advance

My 8350 chews up anything and everything I throw at it...I multitask like a madman and it keeps up. Plus, when I am having to render or compile it goes by much more quickly.

I overclocked to 4.4 GHz on my board, and I am enjoying it quite a bit.

Also, I run win7 64...
You're also not benchmarking the same part of the game as them most likely (nor doing the same actions), so you're not going to get fair results. Not to mention that the 8150 is a bulldozer CPU so it's not the best. I'm willing to bet your lows are also much lower than their lows.

It's pretty amazing that you're getting those results on those parts though. :)

Thank you very much guys it was very instructive...I will keep it open a little bit to see if anyone has got anything else to say, and are you two happy with your cpus!? I am considering getting an fx 8350, I have the budget to go i5 4670k, but I don't know what you call it brand loyalty or whatever it is...I can speak AMD I suppose, kindly please tell me how happy you are with your cpus? I have phenom II X4 965, I have to change my mobo as well, it is AM3...

I'd love to comment on mine but I haven't gotten around to using it much so far. I only have the stock cooler atm since amazon messed up the delivery of my aftermarket one, so I'm still waiting for it to arrive and install it.

From what I've seen and read however they perform perfectly fine for any game around. The only reason I got one was because I had a bulldozer FX 6200 (like those in the benches you linked) and it wasn't performing as well as I needed it to and I already had an AM3+ board, so getting a piledriver 8320 was the most cost-effective option. As well as the possibility of optimisation of multi-core. I'd also love the ability to stream/record with little FPS loss (which seems to be more available with multiple cores) , or since I have dual monitors I like to watch/listen to things while I play. Have a look at these if you're interested, comparing the AMD FX's to intel's. Very interesting and conflicting with the results that are generally scattered about: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4et7kDGSRfc http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eu8Sekdb-IE

I have a 6300 and it overclocks nicely to 4.1 on stock voltage with aftermarket cooler. had it running with a 5770 and ran games on high with playable framerates. just ordered a 760 today :).

Also, I run win7 64 and Ubuntu 13.10, and I have to say, it's fast in Windows...but it's *really* fast in Linux. I don't know what OS you run...but for productivity, I love Linux.

Thanks so much guys, all of you

hi thank you for your reply, no 4850 supports dx10, not 11 though andI am afraid borderlands doesn't use dx 11...our friends mentioned minimums, but I still believe even 8150 which is bulldozer architecture and not pile driver of course, should provide far better average, they are not comparable I mean  to be honest, I have a feeling that sort of these benchs are biased in favor of intel , I can't say for sure, because I don't have a bulldozer, only if I had one..... and that gpu, gtx 680 is far far better than 4850...I can't figure it out anyhow...
