Are used routers/wifi extenders safe to buy as used ?

Are used routers/wifi extenders safe to buy as used ? I'm not good with tech and bought a used wifi extender, was wondering if there's any possibility of having the previous owner install any spyware to track my internet browsing etc.. Stupid question I know.Thanks for your reply's .

No, spyware cannot be installed on a router or range extender, it can only be installed on an a storage device like the hard drive which contains the operating system in your PC.

However, I would not buy a used router because (except for the highest quality ones such as Billion or Draytek) they tend to become unreliable or faulty after a year or two.
