My uncle gave me 4 1TB WD Caviar Greens for free so I am pretty keen on using them instead of buying my own. are they ok?

Solution

Not for gaming, no.
In a failed effort to "save power", they power down when not in use. Spinning back up takes a couple of seconds.

And when in use, they are only 5400 RPM. Slow.

And especially not for the OS drive.

The WD Green line is good for storage but is not good as a primary OS drive or running apps or games, since it runs a little on the slow from 5400-5900 RPM.
You should look for 7200 RPM minimum... like the WD blue series.
if you are able to get one, a SSD will be the best option.
