Anyone know when Areca will come out with a USB-C / Thunderbolt 3 RAID Enclosure for 2017?

I'm desperate to upgrade, and am waiting for a really good RAID TB3... and I know Areca generally makes the best.

(I already have a nice TB2 from DATOptics, that they custom designed for me.)

I was considering buying a TB3 from DATOptics, but I wanted to try Areca, because I also know DATOptics sometimes buys RAID parts/boards from Areca, ...but Areca hasn't released a TB3 RAID unit yet, though last year they released press that TB3 was coming.

...Or does anyone know what is the best current RAID enclosure?

I need at least 6 bays, preferable 8-12 bays.

... And then, any suggestions on ENTERPRISE HARD DRIVES to fill it? I'm considering only the BEST DRIVES, ENTERPRISE quality, and the largest size.

Seagate? HGST? Helium? Etc.?

10TB? 8TB?

Thanks!

I'm trying to setup a drive to store all my videos, photos, media, etc.

I use Areca and DatOptic enclosures both using Areca RAID cards. From my experience from a support perspective.....Areca won't help much being in Taiwan vs DatOptic in California so if you live in the US DatOptic is easier to deal with. Areca will look more "pretty" but more expensive while DatOptic just gets the job done. Use the money you save on the enclosure and go with DatOptics and good drives. FWIW I've been using HGST NAS drives without any problems for years. Just set it to Check for bad blocks/Scrub on a monthly basis. You can easily load up a 12 bay with 8TB HGST NAS drives and RAID 6 it. MAKE SURE TO USE/IMMEDIATELY UPDATE ARECA firmware to 1.54. Do NOT use 1.52 with Thunderbolt or you will cause yourself much aggravation!!!! If you are set on using Enterprise I personally prefer HGST.
