Basically when im playing arma after a while my pc goes to a black screen and becomes unresponsive, although I can still hear friends talking. The only way to get out is to hit the restart button on my case. Then once my pc boots up again it makes a weird level up sound (only happens after arma crashed). Then when I get back to my desktop and check intel extreme tuning utility all of my overclock settings are reset. This problem only started occouring once I got my new cpu and mobo (which I have only played games while overclocked) and I have tried an array of speeds and voltages and I seem to be having the same problem no matter what. It happens maybe once every 2 or 3 hours and only in arma which is a cpu heavy game. This is why I think it may be to do with overclocking. Im going to try it at base settings and see what happens but for the mean time if anyone else has any other suggestions I'd be glad to hear them. Also, any ideas what that weird level up sound might be? It's like something from pacman and

It might be a little early to call it an overclock issue, especially if it's also happening at stock clocks. Since you can still hear sounds and such from the back, that means that the CPU is still working in the background. My guess is that ARMA is undergoing a weird crash that completely locks up the whole computer, preventing you from escaping its window.

You might want to try running Super F4 to force quit the game when this happens next, see if your computer still works as expected:

Regarding your overclock being reset, not sure about it. Is it just thator every single setting in your BIOS?
As for the sound, it may be a POST debug code, you should look up your motherboard's model and check what the beeps represent.

Thanks for the advice, will definitely check out your suggestions. Also the F4 program works but when I get back to my desktop, my usual wallpaper is just black and I have no shortcuts. Taskbar still works though and windows function normaly. Strange. OS still works fine though

Thanks again

You're welcome!

Not sure what's going on with the wallpaper being black, but the missing icons could be an issue with the explorer. Maybe try giving it a restart through the task manager and see what happens.

Given that your computer still seems to work fine besides that, i'm wondering whether it might be the GPU driver crashing or the system running out of memory. Try taking a look at the windows events when it happens again, see if you notice any peculiar errors logged in there, they could point us in the right direction.

If you have a second monitor you could plug in, you could put some monitoring programs in there to keep an eye on frequencies, temperatures and usage. Something likely to be going bonkers when the game blacks out.

Good idea, I do happen to have a 2nd monitor. Also I do have GPU driver updates available, and only 8GB of ram. The fact I usually have quite a few stuff running eg skype, spotify ect...
Will try updating drivers and ending processes

thanks again :)
