[SOLVED] Around 1500 Gaming/Streaming PC with Z170X Gaming 3 Motherboard

Hi! I want to build a PC that can game and an option to stream 1080p60. I have a brand new Z170X Gaming 3 Motherboard by Gigabyte. I bought it 3 years ago with the intention of upgrading my computer but then stuff happened and I didn't have the money anymore. Now I do, but I am wondering if I am limiting myself by using this motherboard? I chose the i7-6700k processor but I read mixed reviews about it for streaming. I plan on getting a MSI GTX 1070 along with it.

My question is, can I make it work with this motherboard and processor or am I better off selling it and getting another board with a better processor?

If I stream, it'll most likely be League of Legends, Overwatch, Apex Legends.

I also have 2 Acer S0 Series S220HQL, 1920x1080 monitor, if I need a better one, any recommendations will help.

Minus the Motherboard, its about $1200 (I picked the MSI GTX 1070 Gaming 8G, not Gaming X 8G. ($132 difference).

I'm not committed to it aesthetically, and I'm sure I can easily save money on some parts. I just like anything white/black/red.

With a BIOS update, you can run the 7700k on that board.
The K processors tend to run hot, specially when overclocked, so you need a pretty robust cooler.

Personally i would ditch the old board. There is no point in overpaying for 2-3 year old quad cores.

For streaming a 8core ryzen will be a very good choice. Since your budget allows it, i would go for the 2700x which is the best one currently available. It comes with a decent stock cooler. For the gpu i´d choose the 1660ti if you don´t need fancy accelerated raytracing. In that case the RTX2060 would be a good choice.
Also by getting a windows 10 oem licence from a keyseller is a easy way to save plenty of money.

You probably should not buy from a keyseller, as they are sometimes of questionable legality.
Also if you already have windows 10, you can reuse the license repeatedly, as long as you retire the old PC. Microsoft's license is now tied to the email you registered as a Microsoft Account login, and can be reused indefinitely

Hi, thank you for your replies. It definitely provided some clarity. So it seems a new motherboard is a way to go, which is fine.

I guess for me it comes down to the path of Intel or Ryzen, is there any performance difference between them for gaming/streaming?

If not, then I may choose what's cheaper and use the money for better monitors and still meet my 1500 budget.

(I have a bias because I am not familiar with Ryzen, but I did research and overall it's always recommended) So I am completely open to the idea of going Ryzen as long as it satisfy my needs and performs well.

Oh I didnt know this, but I actually been running W7 OS. My current build is 7 years old hence my knowledge is a bit outdated. Thank you though.

There probably is a small risk of getting a fake key. But there is a easy fix for that! When choosing the keyseller only buy from those who accept paypal payment. That way you will certainly get your money back if something isn´t working as intended.

By the way. The reason why their keys are so ridiculously cheap is, because they sell oem licences. They are only usable for one build! When you switch out the motherboard you need to link a new licence to your account. But honestly, if i pay like 5€ here in europe for a perfectly working Windows 10 pro licence and it´s working till the board breaks or you sell it, it´s still an amazing deal.

Comparing the 8700k vs 2700x in gaming alone the 8700k wins. It´s a better choice if you need to achieve the highest possible framerate.

But since you need a rig for gaming+streaming the 2700x will do better since it has 2 additional cores or 4 threads more to it´s disposal. This means when doing both the cpu will drop less frames therefore allowing a better gameplay and streaming experience. Plus you save some money.

Since you are playing fps games i would highly recommend a wqhd 144hz monitor to you. If you can afford it, get one with gsync/gsync compatible. Something like the dell S2716DG.

If you can afford to wait for two more months you might get even more bang for the buck. If the leaks are close to the truth r5 3600x is going to be a 8c/16t gaming beast on a budget.
