Well at a minimum, my modem is always warm to the touch. I have had it for a couple of years and didn't really think about it because it's on the household's secondary computer and my visits up there are infrequent. Today I did some long overdue cable management.

The heat felt like maybe a 20 watt bulb. Anyhow much warmer to the touch than my router or my ooma telo unit which both live in the same area.

I was wondering whether modems by their nature run warm to the touch (this is on all the time! implies I'm constantly running a small electric heater) or whether it is just THIS modem. Anytime we convert electricity to heat inefficiencies (and costs) are involved, I'm used to dealing with heat inside the build but never really noticed the modem till today. I had been keeping the router on top of it and decided that was a bad idea for both components, so I rearrange thins so the modem is in the vertical small tower position and the router is to the side.

thanks
