A few months ago, my ISP provided me with an Arris DG2470A cable modem. The ISP's independent contractor installed the modem and then plugged my Linksys wireless router into it. Because the Linksys is already providing wireless connectivity to the devices in my home, the installer called someone and had them remotely disable the modem's wireless features. This resulted in the wireless indicator lights going dark.
I was having issues accessing some of my devices when away from home. Googling indicated this could be due to a Double NAT scenario. I logged into the modem's configuration interface today, changed the admin password from "password", and then changed NAT Mode from "RoutedWithNAT" to Bridged. This resolved my remote access issues but had an odd side-effect; instead of using 192.168.0.1 to access the configuration interface, I had to use 192.168.100.1:8080, instead. Thanks, again, to Google for helping me resolve that!
Surprisingly, the configuration interface shows the wireless features as being enabled. Although I'm not looking to re-enable the wireless features, I was curious -- so I disabled and re-enabled both the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz settings; however, the indicator lights are still off. How can that be? What could the installer have had done, especially by someone remotely, that, in effect, permanently disabled the wireless features?
